Kyadondo East MP, Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine has surprised with a sharply political new track.
The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) in 2016 secretly asked broadcasters not to dare play Wine’s song, Dembe on their airwaves.
Indeed, by last evening, some social media users were tweeting that news about the ‘ban’ had driven them to listen to the song.
Bobi Wine is not stranger to controversy: Mr. Kyagulanyi in his new song called ‘FREEDOM’ asks for the retirement of President Museveni because according to him the country was facing 21st problems that need 21st solution and can be implemented by the 21st generation.
The video locations show Bobi Wine locked up in a prison cell, at political rallies with his supporters wearing red “Togikwatako” ribbons. He sings against the ongoing controversial Age limit bill moved by Igara West MP Raphael Magyezi, which seeks to delete the upper age limit in article 102b to one to stand for reelection beyond the age of 75.
He says in the past government has been changed through guns. He calls upon Ugandans to fight for their freedom through the constitution.
The legislator then rallies people from different districts in the country to rise up and speak against among other issues; Oppression, violation of rights, and most importantly the age limit amendment.
“This is a message to the government, expressing exactly what is on the people’s mind. We are fed up of those who oppress our lives and everything that takes away our rights. Uganda seems to be moving backwards, this is almost making us hate our country,” Bobi sings.
Tension has already risen, especially between supporters of the National Resistance Movement’s Museveni getting his way and his rivals in the opposition with clashes and arrests marring most consultations
On October 18, the Kampala Metropolitan Police commander, Mr Fred Mwesigwa, issued a directive to the managing director of Balunywa promotions limited, to desist from proceeding with Bobi Wine’s show in Mukono District. The singer since sued the Mwesigwa and the police force demanding Shs 300 million in lost income.
By press time, Bobi Wine and Ms Pamela Ankunda, head of public and international relations at UCC both could not be reached for a comment over the impending ban
