The 2017 edition of Uganda Film Festival will see more local filmmakers involved and empowered, The Uganda Communications Commission has announced.
The number of participants from moved from 118 in 2016 to 145 for this year with the festival week feted under the theme; “Celebrating culture through film.”
The awards will be in the categories of; the best feature film, best cinematography, best short film award, best animated film, best student film, best screen play and film of the year.
UCC spokesperson Ms. Pamela Ankunda on Wednesday revealed that the festival is scheduled to begin on August 28 with several activities and end with the awards gala on Sept. 01.
The Uganda film festival was first launched in August 2013 in Kampala; it showcased what is happening in the local film industry and generated interests in the industry both locally and internationally.
The state regulator said they have so far achieved some objectives for which the idea of the festival was originated in 2013.
