The Minister of Local Government, Tom Butiime has assured Tooro Kingdom on government’s commitment to return its assets.

Tooro is demanding more than 150 assets including land and buildings from the government.

The assets are located in Kabarole, Kamwenge, Kyenjojo and Kyegegwa districts. The Kingdom also has assets in Kasese and Bundibugyo, which were formerly under Tooro before starting their own cultural institutions.

Speaking at the 22nd Coronation anniversary of King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV Butiime said that all the Members of Parliament from the Tooro region support the return of the properties.

He also said that ministers from the region who include the Attorney General,  William Byaruhanga,  Defence Minister, Adolf Mwesige and Gender State Minister Peace Mutuzo are engaging with the government to ensure the quick return of the assets.

Butiime ‘s comments follow those of Bernard Tungakwo,  the Kingdom Premier, who said that the kingdom subjects are frustrated over delays by the government to return its properties.
