Pastor Yiga’s Television will capture Kalondoozi ‘after all’, UCC just lifted its license suspension

ABS Television will again Kalondoozi, an adult content-filled programme that airs on the station as the state regulator – Uganda Communications Commission has lifted their license suspension today.

Notorious for its soft porn content, the programme is a loose imitation of Cheaters, a popular internationally aired reality television show meant to track down unfaithful partners.

This comes barely a week after the UCC suspended the controversial Pastor Yiga’s Kawala-based TV station license over what it termed as “repeated breach of minimum broadcasting standards.”

In a September 5 letter, UCC Executive Director Godfrey Mutabazi communicated a forthwith disabling of the television signals, citing an “offensive programme” that the television station has aired despite warnings from the regulator.

Today, another letter from the Commission said; “…the Commission resolved to conditionally lift the suspension of ABS Television Broadcast licence. UCC, shall, in the next six (6) months, review, evaluate and continuously monitor all programs and content broadcasted on ABS Television to ensure that they are appropriately modified to confirmed with the law and the minimum broadcasting standard,” Mr Mutabazi’s letter, addressed to the Managing Director Auger Revival Ministries Limited, the licensed owner of the station, read in part.

ABS TV owner Augustine Yiga, a controversial city ‘pastor’, had initially been given 60 days effective from September 05, to modify programs or have his station eternally switched off.

The station has recently come under criticism from sections of the public after a video clip supposedly produced by the TV emerged on social media with two female presenters dressed skimpily while expressing themselves seductively something that drew disgust among social media users.

This move to lift the suspension is a welcome move and hopefully, ABS TV will enjoy media freedom in a responsible manner.
