Heavy rain has been affecting the Western Uganda region over the past few days, causing casualties and damages.
Now the sick cannot be sent to the the Kisiizi Hospital, a community hospital in the town of Kisiizi in the Rukungiri District of south-western following floods in the area on Sunday.
Taxi drivers and residents say they fear they could be swept away by the volume of water that had covered the road linking the biggest hospital in the area. The hospital is approximately 42 kilometres south of Rukungiri, where the district headquarters are located.
A local journalist told TheUgandan on Monday that all the wards are flooded and electricity has gone off as well.
The Uganda National Meteorological Authority (UNMA) released an alert last week about the second season rainfall being above normal and heavy. It will continue upto December.
“This heavy rain is causing massive floods and landslides in the mountainous areas,” said Martin Owor, Commissioner, Disaster Management in the office of the Prime Minister.
