South African based Uganda Cranes goalie Dennis Onyango and his family got a luvvly-jubbly surprise when BET Award winner Eddy Kenzo turned up at his Pretoria home.
Onyango used to watching out for Mamelodi Sundowns’ fans waving at him and dropping gifts was stunned to see the Sitya Losi star trotting over for a chat.
All around him curious faces of Onyango’s sons and wife lit up with recognition as they wondered what he was doing in their apartment 4,804.4 km from Kampala.
“About yesterday I visited my brother Onyango, may the great lord bless your beautiful family Bambi and keep making us proud,” Kenzo said on Monday after returning from the 2016 African Muzik Magazine Awards (AFRIMMA).
Kenzo and Onyango’s friendship stretches back to the dusty Nsambya playgrounds were the pair both started for SC Villa’s junior team before taking different paths in professional music and football respectively.
Onyango who stood tall as his Sundowns won 3-0 against Egyptian giants Zamalek in the continent’s premier club competition final in the first leg on October 15 at the Lucas Moripe Stadium. The the return leg is at the Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria on October 23.
Lanky Onyango was also a core member of the Cranes side that qualified for Afcon 2017, ending a 39-year wait before guiding Uganda to an important away goalless draw against Ghana in Tamale in the first encounter of the Fifa 2018 World Cup qualifiers.
