Jailed leader of the Muslim Tabliq Sect, Sheikh Yunus Kamoga has applied to be released on bail, pending hearing of his appeal challenging the life imprisonment sentence handed to him by the International Crimes Division Court.
Kamoga says he is of advanced age of more than 60 years, and has several ailments including Ulcers and High blood pressure, making his health not suitable for prison conditions.
Kamoga and 5 others were convicted of Terrorism in July this year, and sentenced to life in prison and 30 years jail terms respectively.
All the accused have since challenged both their conviction and sentences in the Court of Appeal describing them as harsh and excessive.
However it’s not yet clear when Kamoga’s bail application will be fixed for hearing, given the on-going strike by state prosecutor.
