Former Forum for Democratic Change presidential candidate Dr Kizza Besigye has said that he will not go back to Nakawa Chief Magistrates Court where he is facing treason charges.
Dr Besigye who appeared today in the Nakawa court for further hearing of his treason case said that he will only return as a prisoner.
“I respectfully want to inform this court that I will not come back to this court. When investigations are done they can inform me. I will only come back to this court as a prisoner if they choose to arrest me but i will not come back myself,” Dr Besigye said.
This comes just days after Dr Besigye announced that he would not go back another court in Kabale where he faces a case in which he allegedly caused the injury of police officers and smashing wind screens of police vehicles in July 2012 when he led a procession in Kabale district.
Dr Besigye was arrested in May last year on the same day with President Yoweri Museveni’s swearing in.
His treason charge emanates from a video in which he appeared to be swearing in under the watch of FDC officials.
Dr Besigye who beat a security ring that had been formed around his Kasangati home appeared in the city center, mobilizing people to follow him.
He was the arrested and taken to Jinja, where he was help in Nalufenya police cells. He was then airlifted to Moroto District where he was charged and remanded to prison.
However, he was later transferred to Kampala and charged at Nakawa before being released on bail by the High Court.
Nevertheless, the magistrate set February 27 as the date when Dr Besigye is expected to return to the same court.
