The International Criminal Court (ICC) president, Judge Silvia Fernández de Gurmendi, has assured President Museveni and his African counterparts that the international court is not targeting African leaders.
President Museveni has of recent been very critical of the ICC which has accused of only eying the African continent for wrongdoers.
However, the ICC president who is in Uganda used the visit to indirectly send a message to Mr Museveni sayiung that the court she heads is playing its role of dispensing justice across the world.
Ms Fernández admitted that the court initiated its investigations legally called situations mainly on the African continent.
The ICC has mainly been castigated by Burundi, South Africa and Gambian governments which have announced that they are ready to quit the world court.
On his part, Ugandan president has called upon african leaders to institute an African court that will handle African problems.
For instance, last year during his swearing in ceremony at Kololo Independence Grounds, Mr Museveni lashed out at the ICC for describing it as a “bunch of useless fellows.”
Relatedly in 2013, while speaking at the swearing in ceremony of KenyanPresident Uhuru Kenyatta, Mr Museveni said the West is using the ICC to target some unfriendly African leaders.
Ongwen at ICC
However, President Museveni has not talked about the ongoing trial of Dominic Ongwen, a senior commander in the rebel Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) at the ICC.
Ms Fernandez arrived in the country on February 23 at the invitation of the Trust Fund for Victims (TFV), an independent body associated with the ICC and is visiting victims of the Lord’s Resistance Army rebels benefiting from the fund in Northern Uganda.
