A 24-year-old Ugandan national was allegedly killed in Bengalur, India, during the early hours of Thursday morning.
The deceased was identifed as Nakayaki Florence, a student of BBM in a private college in New Delhi and her killer has been identified as Ishan Sood, 30, a resident of BTM.
According to police, Florence met Ishan at Brigade road on Wednesday evening. He approached her for sex and both made a deal for Rs 5000 (Ugx 250,000). But upon reaching her residence at around 1 AM, Florence saw two men and demanded Rs 10,000. A fight broke out between Florence and Ishan over the same and in a fit of rage, Ishan stabbed Florence with the knife that the latter had carried for safety purposes.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-East division) P S Harsha said the incident took place around 1.30 am. A video uploaded on social media by African nationals who reached the spot soon after the murder showed the victim lying dead on the floor in a corner of her house. The assailant, who had come to Bengaluru eight months ago for a job, is seen in the video in a semi-conscious state on a sofa. The police said that the woman screamed for help, drawing the attention of residents of Thimmegowda Layout. Her landlord rushed to her house and found her lying in a pool of blood and Sood holding a knife, the police said.
The Bengalur police was alerted by the locals who rushed to the spot alarmed by screaming sound. Subsequently, the police arrested Ishan. Tension prevailed when few Ugandan nationals staged a protest in front of the police station.
A complaint was registered and the investigation is underway.
