Less than a day after leading opposition party Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) delivered food aid the thousands of starving families in Isingiro district, ruling party NRM has also announced a similar campaign.
On Thursday, Kiiza Besigye has attacked government for failing to put in place improved irrigation technologies across the country to avert the effects of prolonged droughts that has left citizens in a food crisis.

But in response, members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) and some cadres from the Central Executive Committee (CEC) under there umbrella group dubbed the NRM Senior Cadres on behalf of their party have planned a move to contribute money give a hand to the districts that are prone to hunger in the regions of central Uganda, western and Karamoja to mention a few.
Muhindo Morris, the Secretary General of the NRM youth League and Kasoga Olivia were nominated to collect the money and be receipted and a committee is soon to be set up to gear it and to mobilise other members.
“Senior cadres, we want to help with the disaster situations around the country, solidarity to the government initiative. And I suggested we each contribute 20k towards food donation,” Patrick Obura a NEC Member was told TheUgandan about the initiative.
However, some senior cadres seem to differ from the cause because of the reluctance of the top party’s leadership to get involved.
“I can not donate food when it is a top management gap and irresponsibility. How sure are you that my own house is soon going to be hit by the same disaster?” Ms Caroline Angolere a vocal activist questioned.
“To be honest, I am currently doing disaster preparedness and management at my home so the best as senior cadres we can do is to come together, create teams that can voluntarily support the different government departments do their work the right way because it seems they are off truck,” she added.
