Makerere students have called off their Strike after a meeting with the VC Prof. Dumba
Even after Makerere University administration bowed to pressure and revoked an early suspension of 15 students who allegedly vandalising Mary Stuart Hall kitchen utensils during a strike over poor quality meals, student leaders have demanded for a new service provider.
On Tuesday, a letter by the office of the Vice Chancellor, Prof Dumba Ssentamu, had ordered the students to vacate the university premises by Tuesday, October 25, not later than 5:00pm. The students were accused of inciting students and invading Mary Stuart kitchen serving counter, and destroyed property including; chairs, cups and plates.
As a result, students demonstrated on Wednesday and in a short interview TheUgandan did with certain student leaders, they vowed to chase away the service providers who are responsible for serving them poor meals arguing that they will not bow down and use poor services yet the charges are high.
“We demand the immediate termination of the contact that was awarded to Venus restaurants because by all standards, their services are very poor compared to the amount of money pay for the service,” said Derrick Kagurusi a student rights activist said.
Makerere University Guild President Roy Semboga they were still in deliberations with the university vice chancellor Prof Ddumba Ssentamu to sort out the issue of quality on the service provider’s side.
