The late Andrew Felix Kaweesi is Tuesday being laid to rest at his ancestral home today in Lwengo district and Inspector General of Police General Edward Kale Kayihura has said that a very important arrest was made earlier in the day.
“We have already arrested some suspects connected to the murder of Kaweesi,” IGP Kayihura told mourners at the funeral in Kyazanga.
He added, “Even as i was sitting here this morning one of them was arrested while trying to run to Congo (DRC). And we are working together as security agencies are not sleeping.”
“So going to radio and saying Kayihura this, Kayihura that, Kayihura doesn’t sleep. We are not sleeping to keep this country safe and we have come from far.”

On Friday morning, March 17, Assistant Inspector General of Police Andrew Felix Kaweesi, his driver and escort, both policemen, were gunned down several hundred metres from Kaweesi’s home in Kulambiro, Kampala.
The murders shocked the country and it became the biggest news story of the year so far.
Kaweesi was arguably the most visible police official in Uganda after Gen Kale Kayihura.
President Yoweri Museveni on Sunday evening spoke irritably about the heinous murder of Uganda Police spokesperson AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi, promising to “hunt down and kill” whoever was involved in the act.
“If they are coming from Congo like it is suspected, we shall do something about it from there,” said the President.
Museveni was speaking to family members, friends and neighbors who gathered at the late police boss’s home in Kulambilo, Nakawa for a vigil.
“Yes we are going to strengthen our security, but i cannot agree with those who say situation is out of hand,” IGP Kaihura said.

FBI, ISO agents hunting for the killers
Agents of the US Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) have joined the investigations into the broad day shooting dead of the police officers.
At least three of the FBI agents, in the company of senior police officers, last Saturday visited the scene of crime where Kaweesi and his subordinates were gunned, to collect forensic evidence for further analysis.
Kayihura will work with an Inter-agency team comprised of the Flying Squad, Special Investigations Division (SID) and Internal Security Organisation (ISO). The team is to be complimented by experts from the United States Federal Bureau of Investigations – FBI.
The commandant Flying Squad Herbert Muhangi and the head SID Andrew Mugumya have already taken up their duty in the hunt for the assassins. The two commanders will pick out the best operatives and detectives from their units who will report directly to Kayihura.
According to a source that preferred anonymity as he is not allowed to speak for the force, the initial stages of investigations are currently being handled by the FBI which has sent in forensic and scene of crime experts.
“Officers from FBI are already in the country and have begun their initial investigations. Right now they are reporting to Kayihura. Their findings will definitely guide us in the investigations,” says the source.
