President Museveni’s four time challenger Dr Kizza Besigye has Monday evening been arrested and taken to an unknown place after he tried to remove police barricades outside his home.

TheUgandan has established that Besigye’s scuffle with the Police today was because they had stopped Opposition leaders including City Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago from visiting him.

Eyewitnness accounts say that Dr Besigye exchanged words with an officer who tried to stop him from removing the police barricades to allow Lukwago pay him a visit at his home following his return from the US where he had been for about two weeks.

“Rt. Col. Dr. @kizzabesigye1 has been arrested at his home &driven away after he tried removing @PoliceUg barricades off his private property,” his party the FDC tweeted.

The Police spokesperson Andrew Felix Kaweesi had on Sunday warned the public to stay away from the planned demonstration by Lukwago and Besigye, which is aimed at bringing street vendors and hawkers back to the City.
