VIDEO: How Besigye ‘sneaked’ back into Uganda

Besigye’s return this morning was low key, FDC bosses to receive him and Police too was uninvolved

For a man whose predisposed ways with crowds and anti-riot Police are a public secret, former presidential candidate Dr Kizza Besigye return from from Entebbe Airport to his home in Kasangati after his 12-days trip abroad is unusual.

Unlike his last return when police deployed heavily along Entebbe road and picked Besigye, on Saturday morning, the four-time challenger of President Museveni return this morning was kept low key.

Neither his party Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) nor his army of social media diehards divulge the details of the former candidate’s trip to abroad nor his return, emphasizing that they had ordered not to.

Dr. Besigye dressed in grey pants, a dark blue t-shirt and a leather jacket, arrived at Entebbe International Airport aboard a Kenya Airways flight without a single top or mid-level FDC party official  waiting to receive him only for an unknown Moses Byamugisha drove him to his home in Kasangati, Wakiso District.

Basically today’s return had no major incidents save for a few bystanders who unmindful waved at him on Entebbe road around Nakasero market while a few others signaled at him in at Mpererwe a few kilometers to his home in Kasangati.

Outside Besigye’s home, less than twenty of his supporters wearing black t-shirts had placards warning police to stay out of bounds. Basically it was an unspectacular situation that couldn’t raise any red flags to necessitate Police’s involvement as normally it is.

Two hours after he reached home, Besigye was driven back to Kampala CBD and his interaction with supporters could provoke Police to set in.

Mission

Besigye used his latest tour of Europe and the United States to highlight what he says is the deteriorating human rights situation in Uganda, according to party insiders.

He left the country on October 17. On October 19, he attended a ceremony at the University of Manchester where his wife, Winnie Byanyima, was honoured with a doctorate for her role in advocating for women’s rights.
