The Uganda Peoples Defence Force (UPDF) has come out to stoutly defend its Chief of Staff Land Forces, Brig Leopold Kyanda is allegedly under investigation over a fake arms deal.

Brig Kyanda has for the past week been under public scrutiny after he was connected by different media analysts to a Polish firm recently accused a renowned city conman Sam Simbwa and army officers of defrauding it 520,000 Euros (approximately sh19.8 billion) in a fake arms deal.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Emilian Kayima confirmed the arrest of Simbwa and an army Captain only identified as Muhoozi for defrauding the Polish firm and pretending to deal for the government’s armory.

The UPDF on Monday said; “Media houses propergatating these rumours are cautioned to stop these false allegations against Brig Kyanda as there are no clear indications of his involvement in the alleged case,” part of a statement seen by TheUgandan from army spokesman Lt. Col Paddy Ankunda read.

Ankunda insists all those reports are ‘unfounded and malicious’ and those found culpable of ‘propagating’ them will face the law.

Kyanda was a few years ago named in an illegal drug deal that partly cost him his position as military intelligence chief.
