The Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) is investigating a shooting involving two soldiers at Katomi Kingdom Resort in Entebbe on Sunday.
Initial reports indicate that the two had a disagreement which prompted the exchange in which one of them was severely injured.
It is alleged that the scuffle started when Nicholas Akandwanaho, one of the soldiers, attempted to disarm his colleague Asike Jage who was threatening revelers at the scene. Asike then discharged a bullet which injured Akandwanaho in the right thigh. He is now undergoing treatment.
UPDF Spokesperson Brigadier Richard Karemire says such naughtiness cannot be ignored adding that the matter is already being investigated.
Karemire says that initial investigations indicate that Asike, one of the officers was excited as part of the New Year’s Day festivities. Karemire says soldiers are supposed to act professionally and the act of confronting civilians and acting on one’s own is against what the UPDF stands for.
