The recruitment was carried out by both the UPDF and the police in Nakawa, Makindye, Lubaga, Kira, Kololo, Wakiso Town Council and Mukono. During the one-week recruitment exercise, 70% of people who turned up were rejected due to lack of academic qualifications and poor health.

According to Major Henry Obbo, spokesperson of the recruitment exercise, while their target of 6,000 recruits in the first phase was not reached, the turn up was amazing compared to other UPDF recruitment exercises in the past.
The recruits will now undergo an orientation in Kampala before being taken to Kaweweta Recruits Training School for a basic Military training that will last four months.
He also says that more LDUs will be recruited in different phases, to reach 24,000.
