A top official of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees has recorded a statement at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations headquarters over sodomy allegations.
According to CID spokesman Vicent Ssekatte, the suspect, 65 year old Ali Khamis is detained at Jinja Road Police station in Kampala but committed the unnatural offenses in Kitgum District. He was picked from Palabek Refugee Settlement camp in Lamwo district where he operates.
It’s alleged that the suspect hired a 22-year-old former staff of UNHCR as his maid, but he later started forcefully having analysis sex with her in February.
The Association of Woman Lawyers or FIDA Uganda accuses Police in Kitgum for trying to suppress the case.
Ms Mercy Munduru, FIDA programme officer said the victim is in a very critical health condition after several tests.
“If following a professional investigation the allegations are substantiated, the identified perpetuator is normally dismissed,” said Ms Duniya Aslam Khan, UNHCR spokesperson.
The woman claimed that she has several pain and was unable to control her stool and urine.
Kitgum Municipality MP Beatrice Anyway says that Police in Northern Uganda had feared to arrest the UNHCR official out of fear that he had diplomatic immunity.
