Data protection experts have called for a stricter controls in the proposed Data Protection Bill.
Parliament is currently condidering the Data protection and privacy bill 2015 but the experts believe that the bill is sketchy in a number areas.
One of these areas according to Silver Kayondo a lawyer with Ortus LLP is whether or not to create a Data Protection Agency or whether this mandate should be given to NITA(U)
Kayondo believes a separate authority would create a more efficient processes to regulate use of and protection of private data.
He also says the bill is not clear on the aspect of mandatory cyber insurance policies that ensure that users who entrust their data to certain institutions are informed clearly on what they are signing up for.
Kayondo in addition says there should be mandatory data disclosures in case of a breach so consumers are aware of how much data has been compromised.
