Ugandan found dead at Dutch airport identified

Odong was born on September 30, 1963 in Gulu district

Government run Uganda Media Centre has identified the 53-year-old Uganda has been found dead at the Schiphol airport in Amsterdam, Netherlands as an Assistant Commissioner in charge of Agrochemicals at Ministry of Agriculture.

Michael Odong left Entebbe International Airport in Uganda aboard KLM Airlines on Saturday morning for Geneva, Switzerland via Amsterdam. He was found dead at Schiphol Airport on Monday.

“Information confirmed,” said an official at Uganda Media Centre.

“This was an Assistant Commissioner in charge of Agrochemicals and was travelling to Geneva on official work.”

Odong was born on September 30, 1963 in Gulu district, Northern Uganda.

Postmortem results in Netherlands indicate that the 53-year-old died of natural causes as confirmed by the Netherlands Embassy in Kampala.

This is the third high-level Uganda government official to die abruptly on a plane in less than a year. Bush war hero and Internal Affairs minister Aronda Nyakairima aboard an Emirates Airline plane while returning from South Korea while Najuna Njuneki, Uganda’s Ambassador for Special Duties at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, died aboard a plane from Stockholm, Sweden.
