Uganda has secured 115 billion Shillings (€30 million) to support thousands of South Sudan refugees hosted in various resettlement centres across the country.
This is part of a total package of 300 billion Shillings (€78 million), earmarked by the European Commission to provide emergency aid to persons affected by the South Sudan conflict which has displaced over three million people.
Of this, 153 billion Shillings (€40 million) will be allocated to humanitarian organizations in South Sudan, 115 billion Shillings (€30 million) will help displaced South Sudan nationals in Uganda, and a further 30 billion Shillings (€8 million) will be spent on various activities in neighboring Sudan.
The funding will contribute to life-saving activities in South Sudan, and to meet urgent needs of the displaced population in the neighbouring countries in terms of shelter, nutrition, healthcare, sanitation and protection, especially of children.
The EU is among the biggest donors for the South Sudanese crisis and has provided close to half a billion euros since fighting erupted in December 2013.
