Uganda coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic is optimistic but wary of Zambia’s Chipolopolo side with a few hours to their international friendly in Kampala as both rivals look to fine-tune for the weekend’s 2018 World Cup qualifiers. It’s not the perfect revenge.
“Our aim going into today’s game is to put up a good performance and results against very good opponents Zambia,” said Micho. “My team faced them (Zambia) in Rwanda at the Chan championship so we know them well.”
Local referee Dennis Batte is the center referee for the match while Hussein Bugembe and Okello Lee will assist as the first and second assistant referees and Alex Muhabi will be the stand-by referee (fourth official).
This is the 37th meeting between Uganda and Zambia since 1964.
The last big time the two sides met was in the last round of qualification for the Afcon 2013 qualifiers with Uganda winning 1-0 at Namboole to force penalties after Zambia had won at home.
Chipolopolo won 9-8 on penalties after a tense shootout and this friendly presents an opportunity for revenge even though the stakes are not as high as they were four years ago.
Zambia will use this friendly to prepare for their 2018 World Cup qualifier against Cameroon on November 12 in Limbe whle Uganda host Congo Brazzaville on Saturday.
