As the Uganda Rugby 7s team continues its preparations ahead of the Commonwealth games scheduled to take place in Australia this year, the rugby union has tried to slot in tournaments that they believe will help the team and the Victoria 7s is one of those, reports Peter Tabu.
The tournament which takes place in Zimbabwe will run from the 24th to the 25th march 2018, Tolbert Onyango believes this tournament will certainly help in preparations especially correcting past mistakes.
The HSBC World Series Qualifiers in Hong Kong and the Commonwealth Games both occur in a space of nine days early next month before the Rugby Sevens World Cup in July in USA, San Francisco.
“The Victoria 7s will be a test tournament and for the six weeks we’ve been training we have tried to correct Kicks offs, one on one tackles and set pieces so if we perfect it in Zimbabwe we would be good to go,” Onyango said after the team’s last training session at Kyadondo Rugby Grounds on Tuesday morning.
Onyango also revealed the final travelling squad of 12 players who will be accompanied by 3 officials.
Uganda is pooled in group A with Uganda, Zambia, Goshawks, Zambezi Steelers and Spartans. The side leaves on March 22 for the two-day tourney before heading to Hong Kong.
