Internal Affairs Minister Jeje Odongo has confirmed the Construction and Engineering Unit of the Uganda Police is heeding to President Yoweri Museveni’s instructions to join the military in the construction of the 273km Standard Gauge Railway (SGR).

The cops will join their military counterparts UPDF who three weeks ago, sent a team of 10 engineers to China to undergo a three-month training in Railway construction.

Gen. Odong revealed that the police management and the Ministry technocrats would now sit together with the contractor and other stakeholders to understand the new partnership.

This follows a communication issued by Vice President Edward Ssekandi, where President Museveni asked that the engineers in the Police force begin taking charge of key construction projects in the country starting with the all-important railwayfrom Kampala to Malaba border town which is expected to end in the middle of 2020.

The Exim Bank of China has started the appraisal of the SGR project that will be constructed by China Harbour Engineering Company.
