Across the country, thousands of people are expected to c0me out to protest, many of them teenagers.

Democratic Party president Mr Nobert Mao turned out to voice dissatisfaction with the government on Thursday; he was instead arrested alongside DP secretary General Gerald Siranda, Mr Hakim Kizza and several others over opposing the proposed Constitutional amendment which includes lifting of the presidential age limit and makes Yoweri Kaguta Museveni life president.

They are currently being held at the Central Police Station in Kampala

Before getting arrest, the DP leaders had finished the launch of the ‘Togikwatako drive literally translated as hands-off article 102 (b) at their main office at Uganda house. They were moving to city square to put the party banner.

The campaign is meant to oppose the proposed Constitutional amendment which includes lifting of the presidential age limit.

Yoweri Museveni has been President of Uganda since 1986

Mr. Museveni on Wednesday for the first time spoke about the age limit debate, terming it diversionary.

He further dismissed claims that his party is pushing for the amendment of article 102 to scrap off age limit law to enable him contest for the 6th time.

“Those debating age limit, what are you debating? Who has brought that proposal? Don’t waste your time with people who don’t have what to do, I have heard them but I am busy with my work,” Museveni said.

He opened up on the controversial debate on Wednesday afternoon during the press briefing for Uganda’s Giants Club Conservation and Tourism Investment Forum at State House Entebbe.

Asked whether he would allow for a referendum to decide on the same matter, Museveni said all that is speculation.

“I don’t have time for speculation.”
