Without any chance on earth to leapfrog Egypt to Russia for next year’s World Cup, Moses Basena’s Uganda Cranes take on Congo Brazzaville on Sunday in their final Group E game.
On Friday, Basena took his charges through a light training session at Stade Alphonse Massamba Debat before they line up against Congo in a dead rubber contest at the 60,000-capacity Stade Municipal de Kintélé. Kick off time is already confirmed for 5:30pm East African standard time (3.30pm in Congo).
Egypt qualified with a game to spare and top Group E on 12 points. The Pharaohs also end their campaign away to Ghana on Sunday. The Cranes have eight points, three ahead of third-placed Ghana.
Uganda skipper Denis Onyango after training said despite being a dead rubber contest, it is always a privilege to play for a national cause.
He said “This game is as rather vital as the rest of the other games previously held, it’s one that can hugely help us ascend our world ranking spot to a respectable seeding. All Ugandans should expect a descent display come Sunday and, a win a way from home is everyone’s aim.”
The Squad: Denis Onyango (Captain), Watenga Isma, Ochan Benjamin (Goalkeepers), Wadada Nico, Iguma Denis, Walusimbi Godfrey, Muleme Isaac, Isinde Isaac, Juuko Murushidi, Awanyi Timothy, Senkatuka Nelson, Wasswa Hassan, Masiko Tom, Mutyaba Muzamiru, Mucurezi Paul, Nsibambi Derrick, Karisa Milton, Serunkuma Geoffrey, Kyambadde Allan and Muwanga Bernard.
