Despite a big win and draw against highly ranked Congo Brazzaville and Ghana recently, Uganda Cranes dropped a place in the latest FIFA rankings released Thursday. Ghana and Congo however tumbled in the rankings.
It turns out the 0-1 defeat in a friendly against lower ranked Zambia (94th them 91 now) cost the team some marks.
Uganda are ranked 73rd, 18th in Africa. Congo are now 7oth in the world having dropped 15 places, while Ghana 53rd, fell by eight.
Senegal 33rd, Ivory Coast and Tunisia at 34 are Africa’s top ranked nations.
Egypt, Uganda’s other rival in the World Cup qualifiers, moved up 10 to 36th in the World and 4th in Africa.
On the world scene, Brazil climbed up to second place behind continental rivals Argentina.
The Brazilians leapfrogged Germany, now in third, on the back of their strong performances in World Cup qualifiers.
Another South American team, Chile, jumped two places to fourth, ahead of Belgium and Colombia.
One of the biggest jumps belongs to the Republic of Ireland, whose three consecutive World Cup qualifier victories saw the team rise 10 places to 23rd.
