A building belonging to a Mukono based tycoon has collapsed burrying 12 construction workers.

Two people have so far been confirmed dead after the more than 20-feet foundation for a commercial building they were digging caved in and buried them.

The building belongs to Businessman Wilson Muzzanganda Mukiibi who owns several commercial buildings in Kampala and Mukono.

This happened in Mukono town on Jinja high way    between Muzza hotel building and the building housing MTN offices in Mukono.

According to head of CID Mukono, Ibrahim Batasi two dead bodies have been retrieved while four victims were rushed to Mukono International Medical Centre with life threatening injures.

Police is still looking for other people who are feared to be dead.

“Estimated number of buried people is 10-12 and we are waiting for excavator,” Batasi told journalists.

Police identified one of the deceased as Fred Kizito while the other lacked proper identification.

The injured include Sumaya Naluwoza 22, Charles Mayiga, Malik Basalirwa 22, Moses Sentongo.

According to eye witnesses, the workers were trying to fix a cracked wall before it collapsed and buried the victims.

Building not approved

The Deputy Mayor of Mukono Municipality, Jamada Kajoba blamed the Engineers and the contractors for carrying out works yet the Mukono Municipality had not approved the plan.

“The contractor and the owner Muzzanganda is to be blamed for putting up such development/ structure with basement without being approved,” said Mr Kajoba.
