Trust the Police – IGP Kayihura tells MPs
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Inspector General of Police Kale Kayihura has been criticized by Members of Parliament for holding suspects beyond the constitutionally mandated 48 hours.

Gen. Kayihura on Wednesday was appearing before the Defense and internal affairs committee of Parliament.

In response to holding suspects indefinitely Kayihura has responded by stating the country is dealing with a threat of both terrorism and violent crime.

Kayihura was defending his policy statement for the next Financial Year, but more urgently he will be expected by MPs to offer answers to quite a number of concerns that have been raised.

Yesterday the Butambala county MP Muwanga Kivumbi interrogated the Internal Affairs minister over the growing insecurity in the country in the wake of criminal gangs attacking several regions of the country killing, maiming and robbing citizens.

He demanded for an explanation as to what the ministry was doing to ensure a secure and crime free country.
