After months of trial in different courts of law, treachery suspect Mr Michael Kabaziguruka, Nakawa Division MP, has been granted bail by the High Court today.
Kabaziguruka’s lawyer Mr Ladislaus Rwakafuzi told TheUgandan that his client had been released on a bail fee of Shs5million by the presiding Judge Yasin Nyanzi.
The opposition honcho presented four sureties including FDC Chairperson Maj Gen Mugisha Muntu, City Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, Hon Kasibante Moses and Hon Semujju Nganda.
In the morning session, the Director of Public Prosecutions and the Attorney General exempted themselves from the case which smoothened the matter for the embattled legislator.
Mr Kabaziguruka and 50 others are charged with treachery and they are being tried in the General Court Martial, whose jurisdiction he has contested.
He has been on remand at Kigo Prison from where he rushed to High court seeking to be released pending the hearing of his appeal case in the Court of Appeal, where he challenges court martial’s powers to try civilians on political offences.
