Total offers condolences after Namboole accident

Vehicular petroleum and service giants, Total Uganda has offered its condolences to the family of a taxi driver who was fatally injured on Wednesday morning in an accident near Nambole stadium in Bweyogerere.

The accident that happened t around 7:45am, when a fuel truck from Kisumu to Kampala owned and operated by Sibed Transport Co Ltd was involved in a collision with a public commuter taxi. Despite unverified reports of an onscene death, officials said the conductor of the Taxi was fatally injured during the crash and the Taxi driver has been rushed to Mulago hospital and is currently receiving critical attention.

In a statement, Total Uganda Limited confirmed the vehicle involved in the crash was one of their  hired fuel trucks.

Total’s Marketing and Communications Manager Marvin Kagoro, said they were saddened to learn of the accident and expressed condolences to the family.

“Total Uganda expresses its condolences to the family of the victim,” the official said in a statement.

He said the company had sent out relevant equipment for evacuation of the fuel by experts.

“There is no spillage of product and Total Uganda Limited the owner of the product is fully engaged in mitigating any further risks together with Sibed Transport Co Ltd,” Mr. Kagoro said.

Total’s Marketing and Communications Manager Marvin Kagoro, said there was an accident that involved a fuel truck from Kisumu to Kampala carrying their product.

“Total Uganda observes the highest Health, Safety and Environmental standards and we remain committed to safeguarding the health and safety of our employees, contractors, and members of the public, as well as protecting the environment where it may be affected by our activities.”

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
