Weeks after former FDC presidential candidate Dr. Kizza Besigye was accused of embezzling party funds collected from his defiance campaigns, his two lieutenants from Mbarara are being accused of theft.
Buhweju Member of Parliament Francis Mwijukye and Mbarara’s FDC District Chairman Stanley Katembeya have been reported at Mbarara Central Police Station by a one Innocent Rugyero claiming that they stole his money amounting to Shs 30m last Monday evening during a meeting at Grand Holiday Hotel.
Rugyero says after the meeting he forgot Shs 30m in a black plastic bag under the chair during the conversation and on reaching home called Katembeya who denied knowledge of the cash.
According to Chimpreports, the hotel manager confessed to have seen the bag of money and given it to his boss Katembeya who promised to return it to the owner.
The case is under CRB 79/21/11/2016 and Rwizi regional CID boss David Ibanda confirmed that investigations are ongoing.
Controversial MP Mwijukye is on the run while Katembeya recorded a statement at Rwizi regional police.
