The Commission of inquiry into land matters has issued another set of summons for Queen Mother of Tooro, Best Kemigisha, to appear before it on the 23rd of April 2018 to defend herself on allegations that she sold land belonging to the Royals, reports Isaac Baligema.
Kemigisha was supposed to appear before the Commission today, but according to the Assistant Lead Counsel John Bosco Suuza, she is attending Cultural functions in Fort Portal, which information prompted Commission Chair Justice Catherine Bamugemereire to ask the Queen Mother to appear next week without fail.
“I hereby order that the Queen Mother must appear here on April 23, 2018 at 9am without fail,” Justice Bamugemereire ordered in a rather stern tone.
Tooro’s Prince Araali Patrick Kasagama told the commission that the Queen Mother has sold various parcels of land belonging to the commission including some royal burial grounds.
“She not supposed to touch Kingdom land except land belonging to her husband but she has fraudulently sold chunks of land belonging to the commission,” Prince Araali said.
The Tooro Kingdom Queen Mother was last month accused of selling land belonging to the Kingdom.
In their petition to the Land Probe Commission, Tooro Kingdom Royal Family Members accused the Queen Mother of grabbing the kingdom land, and selling cultural sites such as burial grounds of their forefathers at Kagoma and Burongo in Kibitto and Kisomoro sub-counties respectively.
Evidence before the Commission shows that upon the death of her husband, King Patrick Mathew Olimi Kaboyo III in August 1995, the Queen Mother acquired letters of administration as a sole administrator of the estate in 1999, which formed the basis for transfer of the land into her names and subsequent sale of the Royal Family Land.
