When the 75th edition of the annual Tusker Malt Uganda Open golf tournament tees off on 7th September, all eyes will be Tanzania Angel Eaton.
Eaton (winner of Uganda Ladies Golf Open 2012 & 2013) is favourite following her close pal, UPDF soldier Flavia Namakula’s permanent move to the paid ranks of golf – an inevitable implication that she will not defend her title that is Uganda Ladies Golf Union’s most prestigious tournament of the year
Eaton, omne of the best female golfers Tanzania has ever produced will in Kampala also enjoy the company and guidance of fellow countrymen like highly rated Vicky Elias, AyneMagombe, Hawa Wanyenche, Sarah Denis, Sophia Mathias, Tanya William, Mwanaidi Ally, Chiku Elias, RehemaAthumani, HabibaJuma, HabibaSanze, MadinaIddi, Neema Olomi and Lina Francis.
Uganda will be looking at the inform Irene Nakalembe to carry the hopes of a nation after defending champion Namakula. The handicap 5 player is ready to play and she is expected to put up stiff competition for the Tanzanians.
Zimbabwe, Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi and Nigeria have also sent representatives to this year’s Open that is expected to play host to over 150 lady players from across Africa. Maxi Byenkya, the President of the Uganda Ladies Golf Union reiterated the readiness of the teams and the Union as well as the course. All preparations have been set for a successful Open.
The event is sponsored by Uganda Breweries Limited under Tusker Malt Lager at a tune of Shs 500 million.
