Ask almost any Ugandan player about the program’s rigorous offseason physical training regimen, and the usual response is a cringe mixed with a deep breath.
But ask Uganda Cranes and St George (Ethiopia) striker Brian Omony about the work, and it’s hard to detect more than a shrug.
On Tuesday, Umony took to Facebook to update the country about how far his journey to full recovery which started in earnest in December after a successful surgery.
He posted; “Ali bomaye, small strides, baby steps till I get to the top……. Conditioning season 1# life fitness gym centenary park#”
The striker had the two rods screwed right through his leg from the knee to the tibia areas removed at CorSU Hospital in Kisubi after 10 months since they were fitted.
The rods were fitted following a major surgery in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in February 2016 after Umony broke his right leg in a league match between his St George and Arbaminch.
Umony has since made tremendous steps to recovery and by the time the two metals were removed, he was already doing light training, gym, running and today even boxing.
