Omusinga Charles Wesley Mumbere has on Monday been charged afresh in Jinja with murder, terrorism and other grievous offences at a hearing before a courtroom packed with royal supporters before Chief Magistrate Francis Kaggwa and was remanded to Luzira prison until January 30.
Mumbere was rearrested on Friday after being giving bail over earlier charges by Judge Eva Luswata on Monday appeared alone in the dock is jointly charged alongside twenty others for the offenses that they are said to have committed between the months of July and November last year at Bukara Village, Kabonero sub county, and at Nyabuswa village, Karangura sub county in Kabarole district.
According to prosecution, Mumbere is accused murdering police constables; Simon Peter Apile, Saverio Ochema and also attempted to murder Deputy AIP Denis Ahebwa and police constables; Polycare Ojoko ,Fransico Nsimaki and Benon Byaki in September 2016.
In the absence of his lawyers, King Mumbere said: “Since I am representing myself because my lawyers are not here, given that they were not informed about this (appearing in court) I would like to be remanded to Luzira prison because of my ill health. I do not mind spending more hours on the road but I would like to be remanded to Luzira prison.”

Charles Mumbere was arrested last month after a government raid on his palace in which more than 100 people died.
More than 100 people were arrested following the security forces’ deadly raid on the king’s palace in November last year.
The government has accused the Rwenzururu kingdom in Kasese district of recruiting and training militants that are seeking secession from the rest of Uganda to create their own republic, to be called Yira.
