Stanbic bankrolls Uganda Rugby Cranes ahead of Elgon Cup

Stanbic Bank Uganda have timely renewed their two-year-long affair with Ugandan rugby ahead of Kenya’s visit for the first leg of the Elgon Cup, five more games this year.

Sonia Karamagi Kasagga, Stanbic Bank’s Senior Marketing Manager on Tuesday handed over a Shs50 million cheque to Rugby Cranes coaches John Duncan and Robert Seguya,  their captains Micheal Wokorach and Brian Odong, Ramsey Olinga the CEO of the Uganda Rugby Union and team manager Emma Baine during the squad announcement.

“At Stanbic Bank we believe in inspiring society, and sports is one sure way to do that,” Ms. Karamagi said. “The previous two years with Uganda Rugby Cranes have been great and we are back to rally behind our champions. The sponsorship will primarily be put towards covering the players’ welfare.”

Uganda will kick off the five rounds of fixtures Legends and the team bosses surprised many by naming six uncapped players. Ivan Kirabo, Adnan Mutebi, Musa Muwonge, Aaron Ofoyrwoth, Robert Aziku and Eric Mula are in while notable absentees include Ivan Markmot, Matthias Ochwo, Ronald Mussajagulanyago and Chris Lubanga.

Kenya jet into the country tomorrow.
