There were only six goals scored in the eight games played on day one of the 2016/17 Azam Uganda Premier League season.

Herman Wasswa was the day’s star with a brace on his debut as Express beat Lweza 2-1 in the Wankulukuku derby.

Another debutant former SC Villa striker Karim Ndugwa scored to put visitors Lweza.

At the Phillip Omondi stadium, last season’s Most Valuable Player Joseph Ochaya scored one of the goals as KCCA ran 2-1 winners over visiting JMC Hippos.

Veteran striker Geoffrey Sserunkuma scored the other while Vianney Ssekajugo could only get a consolation for the Jinja side.

At Nakivubo stadium, Vipers needed a second half equalize thanks to another of the many debutantes Ibrahim Kayiwa against Bright Stars.

Fred Ssegujja had put the visitors in the lead early in first half.

The other six encounters ended in goal-less stalemates.

League record winners SC Villa were held by hosts Police in Kavumba,

Saints failed to use home advantage against Sadolin Paints as the three new entrants Proline, Onduparaka and Kirinya-Jinja held BUL, Soana and URA respectively.

The league resumes on Tuesday.
