Geoffrey Sserunkuma watched a vital Championship of African Nations (CHAN) qualifier win sail over the goal after a missed penalty attempt in the 53rd minute. The result of this catastrophic event cost Uganda Cranes the victory in a game that ended in a 0-0 draw at Juba Stadium on Friday.

This turn of events in the match will be officiated by FIFA referees from Eritrea allowed the game to end in disappointment for Milutin Micho Sredojevic’s Ugandans playing their northern neighbors for only the third time.

The winner of the return leg to take place at Lugogo in Kampala next Saturday will play either Tanzania or Rwanda for a slot at the 2018 CHAN tournament in Kenya, a tournament for only home based players.

After the Kampala encounter, Cranes will now face Egypt in August at home in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier at Namboole Stadium.

Uganda Cranes XI Lineup: Ismael Watenga (G.K), Nico Wakiro Wadada, Paul Musamali (70’ Brian Majwega), Savio Kabugo, Timothy Awany, Bernard Muwanga, Milton Karisa (57’ Tom Masiko), Muzamir Mutyaba (81′ Paul Mucureezi), Geofrey Sserunkuma (Captain), Derrick Nsibambi, Isaac Muleme
