The deadline for switch off of unverified, unvalidated, unregistered sim cards remains midnight 30th August 2017 tonight, a last since the fateful May 19 deadline.

While telecommunication companies MTN, Airtel, Vodafone, K2 and Africell, among others will enforce government’s directive to switch off users, Uganda Communications Commission has released guidelines.

UCC executive director Godfrey Mutabazi revealed that; “ The deadline remains tonight. A sim card that has been switched off during this 72 hour period, will be reactivated upon presentation of a National ID.”

“Unused Mobile money balance will be retained and transaction records will be retained in accordance to the Mobile Money regulations as stipulated by Bank of Uganda,” he said.

The extension of the deadline that ends today should as well allowed those whose phones were switched off after being verified; time to contact the concerned authorities for correcting the anomaly.
