The Airtel-Fufa Footballer of the year 2016 returned to West Nile on Sunday.

Teenage striker Shaban Mohamed beat 2016 CAF Champions League winner Dennis Onyango and the other nominees including Standard Liege striker Faruku Miya; following his historic achievement, he presented with a Toyota Altezza car

Shaban said he was overwhelmed when he arrived in Nebbi and Arua on Sunday to find ecstatic West Nilers waiting to welcome him back home but he says his inspiration is drawn from influencing youth in Uganda.

The footballer said, ” Thank you every one for the reception you guys gave me.it means a lot to me and the whole team. Something that I really feed off of is the young kids and the motivation I can give them. I started off here as well looking up to sports stars. Everyone has been blessed with talent and with opportunity; they have to take it.”

Shaban has scored 32 goals in 2016 alone, 13 in the FUFA Big League as he led Onduparaka to the Uganda Premier League.

He scored seven in the Uganda Cup, and has eight so far in the Uganda Premier League with four for the Cranes in the Regional Tour 4.

He also guided his club, Onduparaka to the Uganda Premier League as captain and club top scorer, was joint top scorer in the Uganda Cup and was voted the FUFA Big League best player.
