SafeBoda’s ‘YourCityRide’: Making rides around Kampala a better experience
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Visible on nearly every street corner in central Kampala, the number of boda boda riders branded with reflector jacks and helmets of motorcycle taxi service called ‘SafeBoda,’ which works like Uber has skyrocketed in recent years, making it one of the fastest growing business brands in Uganda.

And the ride-hailing giant has made it a goal to bring its focus back and strengthen its workforce by announcing the launch of #YourCityRide, a year-long series of events aiming to shine a light on all that is great about Kampala.

While the program garnered a lot of appreciation from its drivers, government officials and journalists during the unveiling at SafeBoda’s new Kisementi headquarters, the company considers it only as the starting of a beautiful journey and promises utmost dedication in finding success together in future.

Kampala, where SafeBoda was born and bred, is an extraordinary city with a diverse offering of different food, drink, music, culture, art and sport. Each month SafeBoda will run a mini-campaign, focusing on a specific interest area, with the aim of encouraging people to go out and discover the best of Kampala.

The over 1,500 drivers of SafeBoda are trained and equipped with appropriate gear to make the ride safe in a city which is notorious for traffic jams and accidents. Whether that means discovering an undiscovered corner of the city or learning to cook, paint or dance, it’s time to go out and explore. The campaign will feature a city tour, a street food festival, a boda themed street fashion show, to name just a few.

This campaign is particularly special to us because it coincides with many other exciting updates in the SafeBoda community. First, the unveiling of our new logo. Second, the opening of our new home on Bukoto Street. Third, the acceleration of our driver recruitment programme, adding 100 new equipped and trained drivers to the family every week.

SafeBoda co-founder Ricky Rapa Thomson says; “SafeBoda was founded in Kampala, for Kampalans, and we are so proud of our city. We are excited about this campaign and about starting a conversation with our customers about Kampala. I encourage everyone to take part in the activities and share pictures. Let’s show off Kampala to the world!”.

SafeBoda was founded in 2015 in Kyebando to bring innovation to the rapidly growing motorcycle taxi industry in Africa. At the click of a button SafeBoda provides a safe, convenient, mobile-first urban transportation solution for Africa’s booming young population.
