This is according to elders and opinion leaders from Rwenzururu Kingdom who have since gone ahead to form the ‘Rwenzori Go Peace” clan heads committee to work for peace in the region.

The elders are demanding the release of the Rwenzururu king Charles Wesley Mumbere as a gesture of good faith that will boost dialogue.

The committee members include the Presidential adviser on Rwenzori, Christine Muhindo, acting Rwenzururu Prime Minister, Jeremiah Mutoro.

They are asking President Yoweri Museveni to directly talk to King Mumbere to establish the root cause of the conflicts in Rwenzori region to engender sustainable peace.

It is testament to the elders’ loyalty to the ruling party NRM that President Museveni has also directed security agencies to screen all suspects of Kasese conflict so that the innocent ones are released.

This has been revealed by Christine Muhindo, the presidential advisor on Rwenzori matters.

The Police is yet to give a comment on how it will would implement the president’s directive.

The Jinja Chief Magistrate’s Court last week charged the suspects with several counts including terrorism, treason, murder and aggravated robbery.
