Former Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) party Chairman Edward Rurangaranga is dead, family confirmed early morning.
Rurangaranga is reported to have collapsed at his home (Kitagata, Sheema) in the wee hours at about 12:40am. A family member says he’s been battling Diabetes and Hypertension.
“Comrades, the Party and the country has lost a soldier, patriot, liberator, and an elder statesman: Mzee Maj. Edward Rurangaranga. May God grant him everlasting life, and carry the burdens of death for his family, the people of Sheema and entire Bushenyi, his party and country. The struggle for which Maj Rurangaranga and his contemporaries dissipated their youths, must continue unabated,” UPC party said.
Maj Rurangaranga, 85, was a seasoned politician and staunch supporter of UPC. He was Local Government minister in the Milton Obote II government.
He was on a team of Sheema Concerned Christians, who are at loggerheads with the former Bishop of West Ankole Diocese Yona Mwesigwa Katoneene, over mismanagement of the diocese.
