The Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs, Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi has Tuesday unveiled local football governing body, Fufa as stakeholders in the upcoming 9th Common Wealth Youth Ministers Meeting that will take place from July 31 to August 4, 2017.
The conference, held every four years, will have different activities including fun football games, Ms. Kiyingi said during a press briefing about the stage of preparations at the Ministry of Gender Labour and Social Development headquarters in Kampala.
“We are delighted to have Fufa, the guardians of the biggest sport in the world here on board,” said Ms. Kiyingi, who is also Express FC Chairperson and incoming Fufa Vice President representing Uganda Premier League clubs.
“My involvement in sport at Express FC and elsewhere has shown me that sport is one great channel of empowering young people. The tournament we are organizing as part of the 9th Common Wealth Youth Ministers Meeting will go on annually for four years until Uganda hands over the chairmanship,” Ms. Kiyingi explained.
Mr. Ahmed Hussein, Fufa Communications Manager, applauded the government of Uganda for its efforts to ensure that youth have better lives and promised to continue engaging the Government on supporting sports activities.
“Fufa always looks at improving its external relations. The partnership with the 9th Common Wealth Youth Ministers Meeting will definitely open up opportunities for the football family where a big number is mainly composed of youths. It is also an opportunity for FUFA to continue engaging the Government on supporting sports activities especially football in this case.”
20 youth delegates from Uganda will attend the function in addition to 2 youth leaders from the 54 Commonwealth countries.
