Eight directors and journalists who were on remand in Luzira Prison facing seven counts, including publication of information prejudicial to security, libel and offensive communication have been released on bail.
They have been in jail since the raid on their offices last month
They are Richard Tusiime, Johnson Musinguzi, Patrick Mugumya, James Mujuni and Arinatiwe Rugyendo. Others are Richard Kintu, Ben Byarabaha and Francis Tumusiime.
They were on Tuesday granted non-cash bail of Shs20 million by the Buganda Road Magistrates Court. Their sureties were also bonded at Shs20 million each.
The Red Pepper owners and staff are expected back in court on January 19, 2018 to have further hearing of their charges over publication of a news story prejudicial to national security and publication of a story that defamed President Museveni, his brother Gen Salim Saleh and Security Minister Lt Gen Henry Tumukunde.
