The move had been widely expected, and the player was unveiled by SC Villa on Sunday.
“SC Villa have confirmed the signing of Emmanuel Okwi to further bolster their squad as the team prepares to do well in second roundd of the Uganda Premier League,” club president Ben Immanuel Misagga told TheUgandan.
The Cranes international had been courted by a number of regional clubs, but chose to sign a six-year deal with Villa after he left Danish club SønderjyskE that terminated his 5-year contract.
Okwi is expected to lead the hunt for goals on Tuesday when Villa hosts Lweza FC at Namboole Stadium.
“I am happy to be back home and I will execute my role as a player to the maximum to see SC Villa wins this season’s UPL title something that failed to be achieved when for the time, I was here,” Okwi said. “One thing that draws me to the team is the people they have around and the atmosphere. Arriving back here, I was humbled by the welcome and I can only look forward to a challenge with the team.”
Okwi was unveiled alongside fellow new signings Farouk Musisi (left back from Proline), Sulaiman Luzige ( forward from Sweden) and Cameroonian goalie Tony Nyokoni.
The former champions have put in a good shift in the local league, trailing leaders KCCA by just a single point with 31 points, winning 9 games in 15 with 4 draws and three loses. They have scored 28 goals and conceived 17 so far.
