The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Agriculture Puis Wakabi has said Government through the Ministry of Agriculture is struggling to end drought in the Karamoja, Teso and Sebei regions,
Between 2016 and June 2018, the Karamoja region and the Turkana in Kenya experienced drought that led to loss of lives. Later, leaders in the IGAD region in a meeting in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia requested that a project to end drought in the area be implemented.
Wakabi says that a project funded by the World Bank to a tune of UGX 74 billion will be inaugurated to combat drought the Karamoja, Teso, and Sebei regions in Uganda, Turkana in Kenya and some parts of Ethiopia to help the people in the area attain enough feeder for both humans and animals.
Wakabi says the project will among other issues rely on increasing the amount of pasture in that the area since the people who live in the area graze their animals.
The project according to Wakabi strives to also decrease on the cattle rustling in the area.
