Prof. John Opuda Asibo has today been sworn in as Victoria University’s new Chancellor after replacing Prof Martin Jerome Okec Aliker.
The function was presided over by the university council chairman Dr David Byatike Matovu and was attended by Board Directors led Dr Sudhir Ruparelia, Rajiv Ruparelia, staff, students, members of diplomatic corps among others.
Dr Sudhir Ruparelia on the behalf of Victoria University Board of Directors wholeheartedly commended Prof Aliker whom he described as a legend for his great services he offered to the university.
Dr Ruparelia also thanked Prof Martin Aliker for his commitment, guidance, wisdom and wonderful leadership he accorded to Victoria University.
“We feel so indebted that we cannot pay but we wish to acknowledge the 7 years of services within which you have presided over 4 graduation ceremonies and above all carrying the image of Victoria University as an institution”.” Dr. Ruparelia said.
He explained that Victoria University which opened up in 2013 has been growing tremendously over the years with provision of accessed location and infrastructure set up of spacious science laboratories, computer labs , classrooms which are all the state of the art.
He further noted that the Board of Directors and the university council has ensured that the right and quality staff is hired to equip the students with skills to help them do their jobs and innovative skills required in order to become successful in their lives and entrepreneurship.
“Our students are well nurtured into being the best in future with enough skills when they graduate. 90% of our graduands are self-employed six months after graduation this is a great achievement”. He noted.
The business magnet also revealed that the Board of directors is making a huge investment in the construction of a new home of Victoria University on a 15 acre land in Najjera a Kampala surbab.
The new campus will be able to accommodate a minimum of 10,000 students with all necessary facilities.
In his inaugural speech, Prof Opuda Asibo also promised to offer the best of him as the 3rd Chancellor of this Premier University adding that he will not desire to deploy anyone at a loss or failure.
Prof. John Opuda is a scholar of national and international repute and is the 3rd Chancellor at the University.
He joins the University at a critical moment and brings to bear his expertise, wide-reach, experience and knowledge that will ensure that the University remains the top private institution in Uganda.

As a graduate with a veterinary Medical Degree from Makerere University, he also holds a Master’s Degree in Public Health and a PhD in Microbiology, Epidemiology and Public Health, both from the University of Minnesota, USA.
His Public Health training has provided him with multi-sectoral knowledge application in Epidemiology (observational and analytical), Administration, Economics, Education and Governance.
Professor John Opuda-Asibo, has experience in Education, Science, Cooperation, institutional Collaboration and Coordination, Negotiation, Dialogue, Cultural Interaction, Publishing, Grants awarding, Scientific Research, Organizing and Chairing meetings, Harmonization of Curricula and Educational Systems the latter as a member of the Top Management Committee of the Ministry of Education, Government of Uganda.
